Living From Peace

When you Live From Peace you step into this incredible relationship with life where you're participating in the experience of being alive rather than trying to control it. Then you tap into the incredible beauty of life's natural ability to support/promote growth, healing and abundance. When you're living from peace it doesn't matter what is going on ... whether things are "falling apart" or going "incredibly well" you'll experience everything that's happening with a deep richness and wholeness which makes the good bits even better and the bad bits ... well ... worth experiencing even if they are uncomfortable.

I think the greatest adventure in life is the journey we take to learn how we can live from peace. I'm not going to pretend that I'm living from peace all the time, but I can be a witness to the journey ... the more I learn and practice the better life gets and the more willing and even delighted I am to experience all of it.

Maybe you're thinking ...

That's all very nice, but so idealistic and not very realistic ...

Here's how I see it ... We were built to be in and live from peace but that does not mean it's natural for us. What's more natural for us is to operate from a place of fear or stress. But "challenging" doesn't mean not possible.

I love the description from Isaiah 2:4 of what it will be like to live in a time of peace; when we reform our offensive weapons into tools of cultivation. I have been particularly captured by the phrase neither shall they learn war anymore. Implicit in this statement is the idea that there is something else to learn instead. What if we learn peace? ... and peace is something that we have to learn, it's an ability and a skill that I think takes as much if not more training and development as learning war.

When you Live From Peace ...

you ...

  • Are willing to be in the current experience
  • Receive and lean in
  • Surrender
  • Believe life is happening for you
  • Act
  • Honor and respect where you are
  • Collaborate with the Body Mind
  • Choose Light and Love
  • THRIVE

rather than ...

  • Judge and fight the current experience
  • Resist and avoid
  • Control
  • Believe life is happening to you
  • React
  • Wish things were different
  • Control the Body Mind
  • Fight Fear
  • SURVIVE

Some important things to understand about living from peace ...

Start where you are

Knowing where you want to go is super important. But knowing where you are is equally important. If you're wanting, for example, to take a hike through the Yorkshire Dales, the journey is going to look different if you're starting from my home in Colorado than if you're living in and starting from London or Tokyo or Melbourne. So often we start our journey thinking we're somewhere different than where we are and that makes the journey more challenging. Being honest about where we are is probably at least half the journey.

The journey is the destination

Living from peace isn't really a place you get to but, if it were, the way you get there is you start living from peace ... the path is the destination. At first you'll be really bad at it and then you'll get better and you'll spend more time living there.

You can't force your way to peace

The thing we try to do when we're living in and from stress and fear is fix things ... control things and make them better. But you don't get out of darkness by fixing or fighting ... darkness isn't something you beat, if you try to beat it you reinforce it. Instead you let in light.

The best path isn't the shortest

There aren't really straight lines in nature. Even crows don't fly straight, they follow air currents and adjust to their environment so that the world around them helps them get where they want to go. We like straight lines, they seem efficient, particularly if we can see the destination and we want to get there as fast as possible. When you decide to start living from peace and participating with life the game changes ... the path probably won't be straight, it probably won't make sense, you'll see what you think are shorter more efficient ways ... you'll have to trust the process.

Learning Peace is for you if ...

  • You want to wake up excited to be alive and open to the opportunity you have to experience the day ahead of you.
  • Deep inside you feel life is worth living but are also feeling stuck in all the crappy bits like being overwhelmed, procrastinating, and worrying.
  • You've recognized that you're living short of your potential ... not experiencing as much joy as you suspect you could be.
  • You tell yourself ... "just forgive"  or "choose to be happy" and "trust God" but aren't actually sure how to do that.
  • You're willing to be willing.
